Are you preparing kids to head back to school? We understand that there are a lot of things to get done at the beginning of the school year. In the midst of back-to-school shopping and Meet the Teacher Nights, don’t forget about your child’s oral health. Here’s a quick back-to-school dental checklist to make sure your child starts the new school year with a healthy, cheerful smile!

1. Schedule Their Biannual Dental Checkup

Is your child overdue for their biannual dental checkup and cleaning? This is a high-priority item to add to their dental checklist. At their dental checkup, a trained dental hygienist will thoroughly clean their teeth and remove plaque or tartar buildup. Then, your child’s dentist will examine their smile for any potential dental issues, such as cavities. With a dental checkup, you can rest easy knowing that your child is starting school with a healthy smile.

2. New Year, New Toothbrush!

Did you know that you should change your toothbrush every three to four months? Now that summer is coming to a close, it’s the perfect time to get your child a fresh toothbrush. This is also a great way to get them excited about brushing their teeth again if they’ve been slacking over the summer. Kids love being able to pick a fun toothbrush with their favorite character or their favorite color!

3. Athletic Mouthguards

Is your child playing sports this school year? If so, they may need an athletic mouthguard to protect their smile while they’re having fun. This is a great thing to check off before school starts so that your child is already geared up and ready to play. Athletic mouthguards are crucial in protecting your child’s teeth so that they don’t get a dental injury during a game or practice.
